Breast Augmentation

The Most Desired Cosmetic Procedure

SALINE VS. SILICONE

What is the best Implant option for YOU?

If you’re considering breast implants, you may wonder how to choose between saline and silicone implants. With many rumors going around about saline implants always rupturing and leaking or silicone being dangerous, the real question is the difference between each implant.

It is a rumor and there is no scientific basis for the rumor that saline implants are safer than silicone implants. It is a rumor and there is no scientific basis for the rumor that if silicone implants rupture, they can cause more harm than saline implants. In this country, we spent over a 1 billion dollars, with the senseless class action lawsuit that was started against the company which made Silicone implants in early 1990 and multiple other investigational studies that was embarked by the FDA following the hype. After a 1 billion dollars in spending, no one could scientifically conclude that silicone implants were any more dangerous or safer than saline implants. During the ten-year ban that was instituted in this country for silicone implants, many American women traveled abroad in the 90s to undergo silicone breast augmentation.

SALINE IMPLANTS One of the main reasons why even 1 billion dollars could not scientifically prove that silicone implants were any more dangerous than saline implants is because the shell of saline implants are made of silicone.  So, whatever danger some people thought there may be to the body because of silicone, the danger was certainly with both saline and silicone. Saline implants are able to be inserted with smaller shorter incisions because the implants do not come pre-filled like silicone implants, such that they are flat out of the box, and once inserted, the saline water is pumped into them.  Once they are inserted through the different areas designated in the body  uch as through an incision under the breast, around the nipple,  the armpit area or through an incision in the belly button, then the desired volume is achieved through filling.

SILICONE IMPLANTS Silicone implants are both silicone on the outside shell and the material they are filled with. The consistency of the silicone determines how malleable and natural they can look in the body. Silicone implants are soft even when they are filled to the top, unlike saline implants which have a harder feel to them, because saline implants are essentially like balloons with maximal air in them. Silicone has a softer, flexible and more natural feel to it.  Silicone generally is inserted through under the breast or an incision around the nipple.     Each patient is confronted with a dilemma of silicone vs. saline,  size and place of insertion for the implants  when it comes to this most desired cosmetic procedure.   A lengthy consultation, involving physical examination and a thorough history with Dr. Paylan helps this dilemma tremendously. Dr. Paylan’s patients walk out with feeling that they have made an informed decision about their cosmetic appearance.

FAT TRANSFER Another option if you’re thinking of enhancing your breast is Fat Transfer.  Fat Transfer is taking the fat somewhere in your body such as your abdomen, processing it through sterile technique and re injecting it into your breast to give them that augmented look.   This is for the patient who wants to avoid putting a foreign object into their body. Results are not as drastic as using an implant but will still give your breast a fuller more enhanced look.  There are minimum complications with a fat transfer and the results last almost a lifetime.

RECOVERY Recovering from a breast augmentation is not that difficult.  Patients will experience some pain and discomfort for about a week following their surgery. This will be minimized by pain medication prescribed by Dr. Paylan.  After 2 weeks patients can resume to their normal daily activities.  Although you may feel fine, you will not be completely healed by this time and. doing too much too soon can set back your healing. You will have certain restrictions such as lifting heavy objects, bending over, or take part in vigorous activities.   Dr. Christina Paylan tends to favor the Silicone Implants over the Saline. “Silicone is the superior implant.” she says. Based on your body type, Dr. Christina Paylan may recommend one type of implant over another to achieve optimal results. Both types of breast implants are safe, but ultimately, the choice between saline and silicone is up to you.

The before and after pictures seen here for each patient have not been polished or edited in any way. Dr Paylan likes her patients to get the real perception– not the polished perception that sometimes editing of photos can create.

28 yo patient who underwent saline breast augmentation. These pictures are within 3 days of her augmentation and while there is still healing that will take place, they immediately change the patient’s appearance to a sexier look
Breast Augmentation and Breast Contouring
  • This is a 33 year old female who underwent a over the muscle breast augmentation with Memory Gel Silicone Implants. This is her photo 3 days after her surgery and although she still has some swelling, she is healing very well and is very happy with the size of her implants. Note the smoothness of the breasts once the implants were placed and the disappearance of all of the loose skin.
This is a 27 year old female who had the obvious symmetry in her breasts. The left breast was significantly smaller than the right and the right breast had more droopiness to it. After her breast augmentation with Silicone, and only through a small incision under the breast, Dr. Paylan was able to not only fix the asymmetry in her breasts but also give her very nicely contoured breasts that look look perky. As can be seen in the after pictures, she now has a very natural looking breasts.
This is a 22 yo female who came in for breast augmentation. The picture to the right are 3 weeks after her surgery. She will continue to drop her implants and they will look better and better as she heals. She has a muscular body and the implants add a nice touch of femininity to her.
This is a 21 yo female who underwent breast augmentation over the muscle. The patient was looking for a very natural augmentation.
This is a 43 yo female who underwent a successful breast augmentation with High Profile Silicone Implants. Despite a tight hug by one of her friends several days after her surgery, that led to some swelling in the left breast, she is very happy with the outcome.

This patient’s husband snapped this pose for his wife just two weeks after she had her breasts done. As seen in this photo, the breasts look very attractive with this bikini! This is the above 43 yo female.

This 27 yo female underwent silicone breast augmentation with silicone implants. Her breast implants did not only improve the appearance of her chest but also the appearance of her body.

This is a 65 year old female who had previously undergone 5 breast augmentations and 3 breast lifts came in to improve her breast implants. She had severe contracture and the implants had been completely displaced with extensive stretch of the overlying skin. She had both a breast lift and new implants placed.

This is a 36 yo female underwent breast augmentation with silicone implants. Her breast implants did not only improve the appearance of her chest but also the appearance of her body.
